Foundation
The Society was founded in 1933 to foster scientific and industrial progress in the fields of electrochemistry and industrial physical chemistry.
Rapid changes in both academic and industrial environments have been seen, with important increases in the scope covered by the discipline of electrochemistry, as well as in the circumstances affecting the industry in the intervening years.
The Society continues to remain responsive to this rapid progress and to contribute significantly to advances in this field.

- Holding research meetings and seminars on electrochemistry
- Publication of journal and academic books on electrochemistry
- Collection and offer of the information on electrochemistry
- International activities that contribute to the development of electrochemistry
- Spread, education and public relations activity on electrochemistry
- Grant for the researchers of electrochemistry
- Projects necessary for achievement of the purposes of the Society in addition to above
Membership
| Categories | Description |

| Individual Members | Individual members are those who possess the qualifications set forth in the articles of incorporation, and who have submitted the prescribed application. |
| Corporate Members | Supporting members are organizations which agree with the objectives of the Society, and, to support the furtherance of its activities. |
| Special Corporate Members | Special supporting members are organizations which agree with the objectives of the Society, and, to support the furtherance of its activities. |
| Honorary Members | Honorary members are individuals who, as set forth in the articles of incorporation, are recognized at a General Meeting of the Society as being of distinguished stature, achievement or experience. |
| Student Members | Student members are individuals who are pursuing a full time course at a recognized institution of higher learning. |
| Senior Members | Senior members are individuals who are over 60 years old and member’s history more than 10 years, and who can continue to support the activities of the Society. |
| Meeting Student Members | Meeting student members are individuals who are the enrollment procedure is incomplete until the application for the Spring Meeting, and who wish to give a lecture. |
| Subscription Members | Subscription Members A are organizations or individuals which agree with the objectives of the Society, and to support the furtherance of its activities. |
At the end of 2018, the membership totalled more than 4,300 members. including about one hundred and fiftieth foreigners representing eleven countries.
